Week 20: Week 20 — Final Readiness: Near the Line and Test Day
Week of Mon, Mar 29 · week closes Sun, Apr 4
This week's items
Exact due times are in Canvas. Each week opens on its Monday and stays open. Practice is never late — but the MCAP window opens April 5, 2027, so keep pace.
Know these cold
- The MCAP ELA 10 score scale runs from 650 to 850, and Proficient begins at 750. Students scoring from 725 to 749 are at Level 2, Developing, which means they are close to the line.
- Near the line, a few points make the difference. Those points usually come from habits, not new knowledge: answering every item, finishing every Part B, and completing both constructed responses.
- Never leave a Part B blank. Even if you are unsure of Part A, choose the evidence that best fits your answer. A blank earns nothing.
- Read the constructed response prompt twice and underline its mode. Narrative, informative or explanatory, and argumentative prompts ask for different kinds of writing.
- Budget your writing time in each performance task. Stop working on items at about minute 35 so you have about 30 minutes to plan and write and 5 minutes to proofread.
- Use process of elimination. Cross out choices the passage contradicts, then compare the rest against the exact lines the question points to.
- A constructed response is scored on what it does well. A focused essay with a clear claim, evidence from the sources, and explanation can earn strong Written Expression points even if it is not long.
- Prepare the night before: sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive early. The window opens April 5, 2027, so this week is your last full review.
Meerk's quiz — open the Week 20 gate
10 questions, no time limit. One counted try: 85% opens the gate. Miss it and Meerk's Study Path opens: it teaches every miss back to you, then a mastery check — and it cannot finish before 25 minutes of real study. Then your second try opens. Work alone; the point is to know it, not to have seen it.
Stuck?
Raise your hand. Mr. James gets a message right away and can help you remotely. Nothing else is stored — just your last name, grade, and where you're stuck.
My Progress
Dinner Table Question
Ask at home: When you are close to a goal but not quite there, what small habits help you push over the line?
En español: Cuando estás cerca de una meta pero todavía no la alcanzas, ¿qué pequeños hábitos te ayudan a lograrla?
